Rwanda Travel Tips #2

Nicknamed “Land of a Thousand Hills”, Rwanda has the exact right amount of everything you want!

1. Compared to the national safari parks on the plains of Tanzania🇹🇿 or Kenya🇰🇪, the ones in Rwanda have more vegetation like trees and bushes. Although they may block your view of some animals to an extent, it is more fun actually😆! If you sit on the roof of a jeep, you will be playing the “Dodging game” the whole time! You need to keep your eyes open👀 and be careful while speeding through the trees to avoid branches from attacking you or trying to force you to stay with the trees! Therefore, while the chance of seeing predators🐯 is a little smaller than in more open safaris, the game of “Watch out the branches” are full of fun in another kind of way😀! Not to mention, the lush vegetation is beautiful in its own way and gives Rwanda a much more wild and untamed look to it.

2. Never sleep early when you have the opportunity to see the whole milky way🌌🌌! Whether you are in a night safari or on the roof of your hotel, please don’t forget to look up and enjoy the most stunning starry sky✨✨ you might have ever seen. This is absolutely a privilege only accessible when you are away from the bright lights of modern cities🌃. Such a luxury is one you’ll rarely find in most countries which are filled with so much light pollution😢. As an added bonus, consider getting a star-gazing map or an app for your phone.

3. There are two things that should be your best friends in Rwanda: sunscreen☀️ and bug spray🐝. The humidity there is deceptive, keeping you from feeling overheated while also making you underestimate how strong the sunlight actually is. Likewise, the humidity also creates a bug paradise as a side product😰. So the best way to protect yourself is to bring these two friends with you wherever you go. Also, you may like to consider wearing breathable, lightweight, long-sleeved tops and long pants to keep your body better protected from both sun and bugs😎. Even if it’s a warm day, keeping your skin as covered as possible will pay off in the long run👍.
